We will be restricted by league rules as to how much we can spend based largely on last years income, so the Kirk?s won?t be able to throw money at it. We will have a bigger budget next year is my understanding. Obviously it?s bigger than last years but restricted by rules.
We will still have a top 10 budget but it will be well below the likes of MKD

Not sure how you can say our budget will be well below MKDs as their attendances 1000 less ours last season. I suspect their turnover dropped significantly last year and will be more in line with ours this year.

Of course any injections of cash by rich owners can be significant especially as they are classed as 'football fortune'. Critically 100% of this can be spent on player budgets so a rich owner has carte blanche

Thanks- very good viewing. Wonder if the OP will take the time to watch?
I always, until I see a segment like this, forget which one is the brother with most of the money (Phil) and the one who spends all his time at the club (Ashley).
Best I can come up with is its Ph-oil and Ash as effective CEO - same name as a previous incumbent. But of course nothing like in any other way.
Anyone have a better prompt?

Think having one of them hands-on and the other with distance makes a lot of sense. Means there?s someone (with a stake) who can take a step back and add another layer of scrutiny with fresh eyes, and not getting lost in the day job.
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.

Forgive me for being a killjoy but why does the squad need to go to Spain to start training ? The Ashleys have already put a lot of money in to update the training facilities so it just smacks of wasting resources imo.

They?ve already invested big sums to start the season on a good footing in terms of transfers in. it?s not my money but are they losing a bit of reason ?

The number of coaches per player is starting to ring bells in my ears too for an L2 club. I just hope it?s not just a milking of resources unnecessarily.

On the other hand it just adds pressure on the management to deliver. Given what?s been invested pre-season and the signings there?s little room for man?uvre for not getting into L1 in my opinion if you compare us with other clubs in the division.

Whether they?re fans or not they must have a threshold of failure or blind faith. Time will tell

Because it?s a brilliant thing to do, it attracts players it?s professional and the climate is perfect, great videos on you tube as well exciting times
ITS NOT THE WINNING,ITS THE TAKING APART

I, for one, welcome people like COYB who ask questions, it allows the less informed of us such as myself to be clued in on why it's useful to go abroad for a training camp and why the Kirk's are probably being sensible in allowing it.

This is nowt like when Walton starts 3 threads at once after we lose, it's a new topic for discussion (which is welcome for me over the summer break).

I hate the doom and gloom mongers as much as anybody but the happy clappers who clutch their pearls the second anything gets questioned annoy me nearly as much... can't you just give a reasoned answer to the question and let that do the talking for you?

Jumping down people's throat for daring to question the club's decision making helps no one, and at worst it turns half of the board into petty arguments, it's embarrassing.

Are we so fragile that the odd thread questionning what goes on is going to derail all positivity and send us on a downwards spiral? Don't be so effing triggered.
I just don't know what I'm supposed to be

Ok I?ll take the bite.

-It allows great team bonding
-It allows the coaches to monitor the players 24/7 and ensure nutrition etc is perfect
-The climate is obviously more conducive to injury prevention
-The facilities on these camps (not sure where they?ve gone though admittedly) are usually way better than home.
-They allow full concentration on training without distraction from home / commuting etc
-Great for networking
-usually have guest foreign coaches with an input
-cost is actually not a major issue

That's not a bite, it's a sensible round up of some of the reasons why it's a good thing.

I'm frustrated that so many threads derail into bickering, unfortunate that to express frustration contributes to that but I'm trying to change something in a reasonable way.

All good points and started with the most important: team bonding and morale.

Good post.

Quality listen, thanks for the link.
But listening to Phil re the video of the lads in Spireite shirts when he left the oil business, and other little snippets I?ve picked up from time to time, I don?t half get the feeling that this take over was long, long in the planning, it does seem to be a ?Bulls Eye? moment to the Sheffield duo when they so royaly effed up?., A casino owner and his floor manager out witted by the punters!..LOOK AT WHAT YOU COULD HAVE WON.

Absolutely spot on and probably an opportunity to sort out any bonuses without agents knocking about
I heard they had planned to use Real Betis training ground but not sure if that happened
