A legend for me, without doubt. Saw him score twice for West Germany v Switzerland 5-0 at Hillsbro’ in his first match at the 1966 World Cup.

A great player, extremely comfortable and skilled in every area of the game. So soon after we lost his great 1966 rival, Bobby Charlton as well.

Less said about his FIFA career the better.

RIP

To quote an unnamed New York Cosmos executive: "Tell the Kraut to get his ass up front, we don’t pay a million for a guy to hang around in defence."

RIP.

What a player! He was majestic, strolling imperiously around the pitch, never rushed or ruffled by any opponent. He truly was ‘der Kaiser’.

They'll be replaying the 66 final between them before long. only 1 England player and 5 Germans left.

Saw him play live in Berlin 1972 in the european championship as a kid which my dad took me to. It was the second leg which ended 0-0 after England had lost the first leg 1-3 a few days earlier.Still got the programme as well !
