What will get done? we have an ageing population, improved medical procedures and treatments, fewer people economically active, already very hogh tax take from business and those on higher incomes, the expected spend on the NHS and pensions will balloon. And Labour will do what? devolve a bit more power to mayors, allow a few more houses to be built and create another govt body in the energy company, and growth will finance everything - well that they are talking about so far...

Growth will be better over the next 5 years - inflation is back at target today, productivity will increase as firms will need it to to pay higher interest rates which wont go back to below 1%. But I see nothing in what they are saying that will move the dial - except we will spend more on the NHS (into the black hole it goes, to what effect who knows) and somehow we will magic up new teachers and PCSOs despite doing nothing to make the jobs more attractive... but more spending means more tax so just the govt deciding where its spent rather than individuals...

So the next 5 years should be better than the last - no Covid, no shock of a war in Europe - but will it be as good as it could be and will it set us up for the5 years after....?

I mean if we've had 14 years of uselessness, what difference will another 5 make..? Am I the only one who would like there to be an option that actually sought to make a real difference to some of the disasters that are ahead if we dont do something about it now...

But no, more tinkering round the edges, more squeezing in to the same small square on policies - well at least those they will tell us about now. Maybe the radical bit is in the bit they arent saying....
