Interestingly, in the laws of the game, the specification for technical areas is the only part expressed in metric rather than imperial. (Although the 1m is rounded to 1 yard.)

Is there not a rule to just how big these should be? Just watching the Scotland match and the technical areas there almost stretched halfway down their sides of the pitch and yet at town they only seem to stretch about 4m.

We could make them wider but would have to cut 800 off the capacity of the stadium...

If so, more stupid protocol that gets VAR an even worse reputation than it deserves (and that is hard)

No the onfield team determined that the Dutch player impacted the keeper's ability to make a save. It didn't matter whether he was likely to be successful in his attempt. The VAR agreed with this decision. He was hardly likely to say that he ref gave offside and he agreed and then invite the official to look at it again!

Was slightly behind keeper and as the guys on tv just said should have still attempted to save it ? why Taylor didn?t check himself is the question. Goal for me.

Taylor cannot check the monitor as the VAR decision supported the onfield call.

Precisely; IMO nobody who has any feel for the intensity, pace and spirit of the game could possibly tolerate this VAR idiocy.

VAR got this completely right! The current interpretation of handball says this is an offence in the build-up to a goal. The referee missed it so it is a clear and obvious error.

Had the referee seen it and determined it didn't constitute handball then it wouldn't have been an error.

The issue for me is stating that the laws of the game make this handball.

Sorry Pete but I've looked everywhere for the originals of those photos but can't find them anywhere. If they do turn up I'll let you know.
