Maybe so. I'd like to see for a game or 2 though.

It's a thought I've had for a good while tbh. Dobra could be as good as morsy in that role. Has a low centre of gravity, loves a tackle and has the ability to roll away from advanced midfielders to break away at speed. Would we miss him further forward? Probably, but it's something I'd be interested in seeing in pre season

Crikey!

Agree, although as they are very different players it isn't really a fair comparison. Undoubtedly Dobra can turn on a sixpence and has easily the best close control in our squad, but still lacks consistency. Morsy could also turn well and had strength and guile making him difficult to knock off the ball. The main difference was that Morsy attained a level of consistency that Dobra can presently only dream about. Remember a match against Bury when we were in decline and Morsy was the only decent player left (rather like Danny Wilson being a one man band a generation earlier), a mate who had stopped going went to the game as a season ticket holder was on holiday and gave him a freebie. I didn't go as I was hacked off with them by then but my mate's verdict was it was like watching Morsy and ten others, which suggests Sammy retained his ability even in a struggling side. Along with Jack he was probably the best player we've had this century.

Regarding Mandy as one of the two central midfielders I would certainly go along with that. He would surely be as effective there as he is at full back. As has been said he reads the game well, certainly passes better than Oldaker and shows more commitment, is incredibly mobile popping up all over the place even though he doesn't have much pace. Also although he doesn't look like he could knock the skin off a rice pudding and a gust of wind could blow him over (certainly compared to Morsy) he can frequently put in a very decent tackle.

Absolutely mad.

Not that mad - as long as he’s not sat right in front of our centre halves of course. In fact he pretty much played that role over Xmas when we were down to bare bones and was excellent.

Dobra as a holding mid is outrageous but apart from that, not bad.

It's an interesting take. I'd be intruiged to see it as an experiment if he's fit for the last game or two and we ain't in contention.

 Bonnyman, on 14 April 2025 - 10:30 AM, said:

I’m going to give my two Penneth worth on who I think we need or who should stay

Keeper.. Boot , I’m a fan, think his footwork is absolute class, I’d bring in an older bench warmer who is happy to be No2

Defence Unfortunately great servant that he is Grimes should leave, he will have no problem finding a national league or div 1 club
Palmer, he has impressed me recently , have we played a decent side though, is he good enough with the ball at his feet, I’m not sure 50/50 on him
Sheckleford, not good enough for me not enough quality on the overload, we are desperate for a quality right back, we need a jack hunt type
Donacien , made of chocolate gets injured tieing his laces
McFadzean, I think he should get one year, local lad still got a bit of pace but reads game well, age wise it’s s no but he is a proper hard nut who will shrug off knocks and want to play the game
Gordon, decent player but is his quality good enough final third, squad player behind Spatkes who is a must signing as will provide assists

Midfield
Oldaker , leave , no pace passes sideways , mark allot passed sideways but he had a near 100% completion record never got caught in possession and never gave it away, I’d play Mandy as a holding midfielder

Mandeville, love Mandy great engine not a right back but should be in the middle of the park, not quiet enough zip to play in the front 4, gets goals and assists

Metcalfe, improved could go on to better than this league but no assists no goals this season so that for me is a huge negative, fill your side up with players who produce big numbers, no for me

Naylor, I think he has had a poor season, his legs may be starting to go but used a bit more sparingly he has class in abundance, gets goals and assists

Fleck, it’s easy to see he has class but we need the elasticity of youth in the engine room, no for me

Dobra, if I was cook I’d try to completely change him , his energy is off the charts, I’d play him as a holding midfielder and work tirelessly on distribution, I reckon he could get to next level playing a bit deeper , he gets sussed a bit further forward but he can turn on a sixpence snd his acceleration is ridiculous, get him on the ball more

So the holding midfielders would be Naylor, Mandy , dobra and another player to be brought in who gets or has got goals or assists, somebody big would be ideal

Colclough, unless he gets fit he is a goner, not fit enough imo , engine not good enough
Olakigbe, won four corners against flertwood but failed to get a cross in, can’t make out if he is good enough or not, on the fence with him
Duffy, impressed then fell off the radar, I wish we had not signed him to be honest, he isn’t that good

Madden , needs to get fitter but he has loads of ability plays the ten better than anyone’ as gets closer to the striker, hasn’t had chance or proved himself this year

Grigg , as everyone knows I just don’t think he fits the bill as the furthest forward player, I’d much rather have an eoin Doyle or a bigger focal point also his pace has gone down we can’t ever slip him in, as a sub next season fine but we need a 90 minute striker with a lot more pace

Players needed
Older keeper 2nd string
Right back essential
Holding midfielder with height with record of goals and assists at other club
Sparkes
One winger
One number ten
Bigger striker

Ps forgot banks, been a superb servant but his legs are not the quickest, goes with best wishes

Agree with most of that. Naylor has had a poor season for me as well. The step up has been more physical and he always looks tired. His passing is worse than Grimes but he does score a couple and has a good eye, I just don’t think he has the engine.

Something doesn’t seem right with Gordon. I noticed after Madden scored when all the players ran to the corner to congratulate him, Gordon turned his back on the team and walked in the opposite direction.

Banks has impressed me the last ten games but I think he will want to go. He took his time signing his extension and I think he has plans to leave.

Colclough has to go and sadly, so does Grimes but he leaves with my gratitude, he’s been excellent for our club.

Supposedly out for the season. He’s a good player, I’d be happy with that.

Yes he was and he was the one who Banks had a swipe at on boxing day when he got his after match ban as he previously gone thru on Berry and took him out and hence Banks retribution

Sorry, have I just seen Bonnyman suggest Armando Dobra in a deep midfield role?

Sure they rejected bids to the tune of £500k & £650k for him from league 1 clubs earlier on in the season (One was Wycombe who were bidding for everyone at the time as we’re well aware). Never seen him play but I’ve heard good things about him, and L1 interest in Jan suggests he must be decent.

Berry not on the bench again on Saturday and not reported as injured. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he’s not at Wycombe next season, even if they’re still in L1

I get the feeling he could have been ill advised on making that move to Wycombe by his agent. We were the perfect club (& the perfect manager) for him to continue his development, getting stronger and stronger. Sadly, I can see it all going a bit pear shaped for him now & would not be surprised to see him slide down the leagues again over the next couple of years.

We will see, I hope I’m wrong as I think he’s actually a genuine lad that wants to do well & he did do well for us and made us a fair whack £, but signs aren’t good so far.

Genuine reason for this I believe. Family related but don’t disagree with the bulk of the post. Rotherham my bet

The role he played over Christmas wasn't what I was reacting to, it was someone comparing him to Morsy as a holding player and claiming he loves a tackle.

People need to stop pigeon holing players, people just default to morsy and Ryan when they think of those 2 positions but Nsylor is absolutely nothing like either he gets much further up the pitch than them, so would dobra
ITS NOT THE WINNING,ITS THE TAKING APART
