I'm no sure why someone has given you a -1 for that, mate.

I was a big fan of John Duncan. However, from a points per game, personality and entertainment perspective, Paul Cook's different gravy. In fairness to JD, football has moved on and there are a lot more resources available to managers and coaches compared to when he was managing.

To my knowledge John was never given the Freedom of the Town, let's hope that Paul Cook's work doesn't go unnoticed down at Council HQ.

JD and PC are polar opposites. With Duncan you were almost guaranteed a 1:0 win, with Cookie you are more likely to get a 4:3 result (going either way!). I suppose it's all depends if you are a glass half empty rather than a glass half full type at fan.

At the moment, I still think Duncan is top of the all-time best managers we have had, though that will all change if Cookie gets us to the Championship!

Duncan was 2 players short of making the Championship at the time, a striker and a midfielder, and an unjust goal disallowed in a semi final which would have been the first 3rd tier side to reach the final in god knows how many years.

Duncan slightly edges it at the moment, but if Cook ever got this side to the second level he would clinch it

Yet Cook got us into the League One play offs , whereas Duncans best league finish was a 7th in League One.

It's a subject that I have spent a bit of time thinking about, perhaps more than I should have.

What criteria did you use to reach your conclusion? Other than points per game, I found it difficult. What consideration and weightings should be given to length of service, division/league status, available resources, attendances, etc?

Either way, we're talking about two CFC greats.

John Duncan was negative.

His interviews, his tactics and, all too often, his goals scored column.

Paul Cook radiates enthusiasm and positivity.

Which is reflected by his sides. And his record.

No contest who's our best ever...

Long may Paul Cook be manager of Chesterfield FC. Management, staff and fans very happy. What more could you wish for.

Cook is only here because he realises he has strong backing which in turn gives him an acceptable standard of living. You only have to listen to bits of interviews where it comes out and he knows he?s sitting pretty. He?s been sacked/out of work in his career and generally he?s in a strong position currently with the club.

The big test will come if the situation deteriorates at the club and the fans start to turn?..and don?t say it would never happen.
God I hate this league.

Just a shame about his previous ban from the game and subsequent sexual misdemeanours charges though

Shame on you !

How dare you doubt His Holiness whose profanities we forgive against the devils dressed in black. He who turns the water into wine (or lager), He who heals the sick and infirm (apart from all our injured players). He who ran barefoot over the barren wasteland in Wigan and parted the waves of the river Rother to save us all (because he had nothing else better to do).

Have faith My Son and ye shall reach the playoffs.

Bless You
